Exhibit: The Intimate World of Josef Sudek

This summer, Prague comes to Paris, as seen through the eyes of the most important Czech photographer of the XX century, Josef Sudek. This is the first exhibition of Sudek in France. It is composed of a selection of a personal donation of some 3,000 original prints, previously unseen by public, and is exhibited in Jeu de Paume gallery in Jardin des Tuileries. "The Intimate World of Josef Sudek" is a chronicle of Sudek's life-long commitment to photography, of his incredible sensitivity to light and shadow, to everyday objects and to poetry of daily life, and a tribute to his work as an exceptional printmaker.

Two years after his memorable exhibit "Cronicles of Parisian life" in Paris, the acclaimed Magnum photographer and British photojournalist Martin Parr turns his camera towards his fellow Londoners. In his new exhibit "Unseen City", presented in the Guildhall Art Gallery in the very heart of London, Parr explores both ancient and modern traditions kept by The City, a corporation with a thousand year history, as a part of his long-term project to study British establishment. Given an unprecedented access to some of the most intimate ceremonies held in The City, Parr unveils this unique world to the viewer with his usual mix of humour, irony, and of course humanism.

When in London, besides exploring the city thought the viewfinder of my camera, I like to pop into one of the numerous photo galleries for some inspiration. This time I paid a visit to The Photographers' Gallery in Soho area in central London to see a retrospective of Saul Leiter, a prolific American photographer, best known for his colour photographs of the streets of New York and an easily recognisable fluid, impressionistic style.

After winter celebrations are over, the presents are unwrapped and street decorations are taken down, January often seems oh so quiet. If you happen to be in Paris, you may enjoy this peaceful time, and while wondering around Quartier Latin, take some time to pop into Galerie Argentic, located only a few steps away from the famous rue Mouffetard. This month the gallery features a collection of original black-and-white prints by the most famous French humanist photographers, such as Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Edouard Boubat, and Izis among others.

La Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris has prepared some great photographic surprises for its visitors at the end of year 2015. Six exhibitions dedicated to travel photography are presented on four floors of the Hôtel Hénault de Cantobre, a classic example of 18th century Parisian architecture. From a retrospective of Magnum's Bruno Barbey to the portraits of Moroccans to young photographers exploring the world, this time it's a real feast for a travel photographer's eye!

November is best known as the "month of photography" in Paris: from its biggest and most famous photography fair Paris Photo in the Grand Palais to hundreds of various photo shows in the galleries and art spaces all over the city. This year, Musée d'Orsay together with Musée de l'Orangerie present a two part magnificent photo exhibition "Who Is Afraid Of Women Photographers?" - a tribute to women's role in the history of photography.

It's been two years since we last wrote about one of the most bodacious photographic events in Paris, Photoquai. In 2015, the fifth biennial of the images of the world is back on the embankment of the Seine river, under the direction of the very same Frank Kalero, who did such a great job in 2013, when the event attracted more than half a million visitors. This time Photoquai 2015 unites photographic series of 40 contemporary photographers from various corners of the world under the theme "We Are Family".

Another year has passed, and the World Press Photo Foundation presents the new winners of the World Press Photo Awards 2015. Approximately 100 exhibits showcasing the best images taken by photojournalists in 2014 are presented simultaneously in a variety of cities around the world: from Paris to Mexico City, from Montreal to Kyoto, from London to Wellington. Presented as "the most popular traveling photo event in the world", WPPA exhibit is definitely not to be missed!

For those who come to visit the French capital in August, La Maison Européenne de la Photographie prepared a very special treat: photography exhibit "Lartigue, la vie en couleur" ("Lartigue, life in colour") by the famous French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue. Presented as a "genuine discovery for the general public", the show features about a hundred previously unseen colour photographs taken over the course of the XX century.
