Features of a Portrait Session

 Take Paris home with you

Capture your visit to Paris with backdrops such as the Louvre and the Pont des Arts for your portrait photos, or possibly Notre Dame and the small streets around it. Maybe a stroll around the Marais is more your style with a stop in a Parisian café along the way… We have a selection of favourite spots that we know you will like!

 Contemporary and casual style

It is your smile and emotions that make your time in Paris so unforgettable. Our photographers use a casual and journalistic approach to record those moments. Dress up for the occasion or come as you are. You may receive some direction, but mostly you can expect just to hear 'Have fun, you are in Paris!'

 A package for every occasion

Cannot decide which area of the city best reflects your personality? Mix and match different locations to create your own romantic photographic story of your visit. We recommend to go early in the morning to have the city to yourself or late in the day to get images in the nice late afternoon light.

 Stunning on-line gallery

Access the retouched photographs from your portrait session in a private online gallery within 10-14 days, and download high resolution digital image files to use as you like. The digital files allow for photographic prints that meet the most demanding needs, or simply share the images in your gallery with family and friends.

Portrait photographs around the Louvre

The Louvre and along the river

The spectacular architecture of the famous Louvre provides endless portrait possibilities. We start in the two courtyards, with their ornate doors, arched windows and the spellbinding Pyramid. Just opposite the Louvre courtyard is the Pont des Arts bridge, a famous gathering point for artists, lovers and picnickers. We finish the session along the Seine River with the Institut de France building in the background.

Portrait photographs around Notre Dame

Notre Dame and the Seine River

On the historic Ile de la Cité, the Cathedral of Notre Dame is a fine example of Gothic architecture. We will spend some time in the gardens around the cathedral using its beautiful design as a backdrop. After making our way across Ile St Louis, we spend the remainder of our time in the quiet pedestrian streets on the 'right bank' of the Seine river, using its traditional street scenes to capture the romantic setting of Paris.

Portrait photographs around the Eiffel Tower

Around the Eiffel Tower

Few monuments define a city the way the Eiffel Tower does Paris, and including it in any photograph makes the city instantly recognizable. We start at the Bir Hakim bridge for some vistas of the monument framed by the Seine. As we get closer to the base of the tower, our photographers capture you walking along the bridge and along the Seine. We also go around the main esplanade for a classic view and the gardens for a seasonal touch.

Portrait photographs around the Alexandre Bridge

Around the Alexandre III Bridge

Spanning the Seine, the Alexandre III bridge is the most ornate bridge in Paris. Its exuberant Art Nouveau lamps and winged horses provide dramatic backdrops to capture your visit. The central location allows us to photograph you strolling on the bridge and along the Seine, with the background including the golden dome of Les Invalides chapel, the Eiffel Tower off in the distance and details of the nearby Grand Palais.

Portrait photographs in the Marais

A stroll around le Marais

This area of central Paris is full of charm to catch your smiles and special moments. We may start the portrait session under the arches and small garden of Place des Vosges, and continue through the narrow streets that make this area so pleasant. We'll capture you enjoying a drink at a terrace in a Paris café or maybe musing in a small courtyard. This area is best early in the morning to avoid crowds and create casual, yet elegant photos of You in Paris.

Portrait photographs in Montmatre

The village atmosphere of Montmartre

Overlooking Paris from its hilltop location, Montmartre sets the stage for your romantic portrait session. We’ll photograph you walking the small streets and lovely stairs leading up the hill. Stop in a café, enjoy a croissant and soak up the moment! Want to make this portrait session extra special? Create your own story and come dressed with your favourite retro outfit. For best results, plan this photo shoot first thing in morning.

What Others Are Saying

  •  Great experience and photos!

We booked a portrait session with Elena in early June, got the photos recently and are so impressed by how well they turned out. She was fun to work with, the whole shoot was a good experience (even though I'm not usually comfortable in front of the camera!) and I'm so pleased with how they turned out. Can't recommend them enough, this was easily a highlight of our trip (and our best souvenir as well!)

  •  You in Paris" portrait session. The ultimate souvenir!

I booked a portrait session with Better Paris Photos in hopes that I would have a few good photos of my trip to Paris with my sisters. Hermione was our photographer and she was great! She is so warm and personable- it's no wonder we had a blast during the photo shoot. This IS the ultimate souvenir and one that I recommend to everyone!

    - Nancy (US, September 2012)

  •  Best Souvenir from Paris!

We booked months in advance a portrait session to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Paris. Due to unfortunate weather, we had to postpone our original portrait session at a later date. Better Travel Photos was accommodating and the process was seamless from booking to dealing with unexpected circumstances. Our session was fun and our photographer, Catherine, was very helpful in providing direction and tips for getting the best shots. We are so happy to have chosen Better Travel Photos to help us create a memorable first visit to Paris that will last through the years to come.

    - Anon (Canada, May 2013)

  •  I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for everything. The shoot was so much fun and Whitney and I thought it was the highlight of the entire engagement trip. Elena you were incredible and made the shoot playful, carefree and fit our personalities perfectly. Thank you so so much!

Frequently Asked Questions

Still Have Questions? Here are answers to the questions we receive most frequently:

1. What should I wear?

First, decide if you would like to dress up for the occasion or be casual. If you come as a couple or as a family, you will look best if you all decide on the same style. We suggest solid colours and no shiny fabrics. Ladies, please avoid shiny hosiery! You can also check our Pinterest boards for ideas and inspiration.

2. Can I change clothing during the session?

Of course, you can change outfits during the session. We do our best to find a quiet corner for a quick change, however keep in mind that you will be in a public place and changing from top to bottom might be a little difficult. Feel free to bring different hats or scarves for a quick fashion change.

3. How far in advance do I need to book?

Booking a few weeks in advance will ensure we can schedule your preferred date and time. We do our best to accommodate last minute requests but cannot guarantee availability.

4. When do I need to pay?

Once we agree on a date and time, we will send you a link for easy online payment. The full payment for the session confirms the booking and ensures the session is blocked in our calendar.

5. Will I get a refund if I need to cancel?

Booking your portrait session well in advance is a very good idea. If you need to cancel for any reason, we are happy to refund the full amount minus a payment processing fee of 20€. If we need to cancel at any time, you receive full reimbursement.

6. What happens if it rains?

In case of rain, the situation should be discussed by phone on the day of the portrait session with the photographer. If it is determined with the photographer that the weather really prevents the session from taking place, we will do our best to reschedule it given your and our schedule. If this is not possible, we will happily refund the session.

7. Do I receive all the photos taken during the session?

No, not all the images taken are provided in the gallery. The photographer will select the best images for post-processing and you will receive only the number of processed images in the package that was selected (usually a few more). As a matter of professional practice, we do not provide any unprocessed image files to any client, regardless of the circumstances.

8. What can I do with the digital images?

We offer digital images for good reasons: we understand you want to share your photos with family and friends, make Holiday cards, scrapbooks and more. Your favourite photo lab near your home will be able to use the high resolution files to print enlargements as well if needed. The bottom line is you can do anything your heart desires with them.

9. Can I see samples from the assigned photographer?

Of course! All of our photographers have their own profile pages showcasing samples of their photography of Paris and their portrait photography. Once you have been assigned a photographer, have a look at their profiles and sample galleries.

10. How many people can book a shoot together?

This is a time-based model, so you can include as many people as you like, but for more than 4 people, consider additional time to ensure that everyone is captured well.
